The Design Process

Having been a fan of exotic sports cars for most of my life, when this car came into my posession it just begged to be better.

This process was started when I received the car, and its drivetrain was unuseable. After many lucky moments I soon found myself with the ability to place a completely modern electrical system, engine, and transmission in the car. Next the suspension and brakes became available.

With these things in hand, I became inspired to take it to the next step. Very few have....

So after 5 years of designs, sketches, and ideas I finally had something that would work, and compliment the original cars design.

Soon I found that there was a process by which things needed to happen. So earlier body modifications were stopped, until the new drivetrain, suspension, and wheels were installed.

Once those are in place, then other mechanical bits have to be installed. These are brakes, cooling system, exhaust, fuel lines, brake lines, and power steering lines. Then the interior needs to be thought about too. Things like steering columns, where will the heater system fit? Where will I put the gas tank etc have to be thought out ahead of time....

When you start down the long path of vehicle design. you will find yourself endlessly staring at smaller detail of how cars are built.  You will no doubt like me walk around with a tape measure in your pocket grabing measurements off of any car that is interesting in a parking lot.

I have learned about the psychology of vehicle design, as well as many of the processes involved when I was in vehicle design school.

We as consumers dont realize how much of vehicle design is designed around emotionally disarming us before we buy. How many times have you fell in love with a car because of how it looks? You may not know a thing about the car, its reliability, or affordability. Yet you look at it and love it or hate it long before you break out the check book to try and buy it.

To have taken on this journey has truly been an amazing journey for me. I still have a long way to go.

To many my steps in doing this modification, and modernization are almost sacriligeuos. It is often met with as much criticism as the first person who proposed that the world wasnt flat.

This build blog is for my personal documentation of this build. If you would like to know or see more look to the "The Build" section of this site.

If you have any questions about the processes that I have gone through or the steps I have taken feel free to ask.

This has been a long journey, but there is still a long way to go.

Feel free to join the mailing list, and keep updated with any build updates.
